Vale Road works are complete New fundraiser launched to help Sr Ann’s Haiti projects

-

WORK to install new safety barriers on a stretch of the Vale Road have been completed.

Around 750m of barriers were installed along both sides of a section of the road between Arklow and Woodbridge by Wicklow County Council.

The new measures were welcomed by Councillor Pat Fitzgerald, Cathaoirleach of Arklow Municipal District. He said the new measures had been put in place to minimise injuries to pedestrians and motorists in the event of an accident and to prevent accidents in some cases.

‘The work was funded by a grant from the Department and I want to commend the council officials for their work in obtaining same,’ Cllr Fitzgerald said.

A grant of €52,000 was secured by Wicklow County Council for the safety works on the Vale Road between Arklow and Woodenbridge under this year’s regional and local roads programme. The local authority’s allocation under the regiona and local roads programme was a total of €11,641,360.

A new fundraising campaign to support the work of Sr Ann Crawley in Haiti has been launched.

‘From Wicklow to Haiti’ is hoping to raise €4,156, which is the distance between Haiti and Ireland in miles using a GoFundMe page.

The page was set up by Mary Condron, who alongside with Sadie Cunningham and others, has been fundraising for Sr Ann Crawley, who works in Haiti. In August, the Avoca Haiti Support Group presented Sr Ann with €6,000 towards her work in Haiti which has included building homes and providing education and training opportunities in Haiti.

‘We were supposed to have a concert in the Woodenbridge Hotel in March, but that couldn’t go ahead due to Covid-19,’ said Mary Condron.

‘I thought what could we do instead? People have already given so much money to charity. The simplest thing was to set up a GoFundMe page and try to get as near as possible to €1 for every mile.’

In February, Mary did a ‘Lap to the Gap’ from Ballycoog to the Gap Pub in Ballythomas, Co. Wexford to raise much-needed funds for Sr Ann’s mission to Haiti. She was met by Sean Dunne, owner of the Gap Pub when she finished the walk.

Organisers of the GoFundMe page hope to send the money raised to Sr Ann to cover the costs of PPE and other equipment that may be needed due to Covid-19.
