Geraldine turns 60 years young

Despite the lockdown, a couple of fields won’t stop the Connolly family from celebrating as Geraldine Connolly turned 60 years young on Sunday. A nice family gathering turning took place with the grandchildren in glorious sunshine. A special wish comes from husband Charlie, who would like to remind you that you won the lotto the day you said ‘I Do’ and a warm congratulations to the best Mam and Grandmother in the world comes your way Geraldine. Here’s to the next 60.

Peter continues 6K steps a day

Local Quill Road resident Peter Lawlor wound up his daily 6km walk with a difference during this Covid 19 in scorching sunshine last weekend.

Peter has been attending Open Door on the Vevay in Bray since 1991 every Wednesday and Friday and enjoy the activities. The Physiotherapy helps him greatly with his physical health and he really enjoys the Ceramics with Mark and the gang. Peter loves making presents for his family and friends and he has made so many friends in the centre and loves to chat with the staff, volunteers, and other members and is really look forward to getting back there. Peter is now one of the oldest people in Ireland with a condition called Prader Willi Syndrome (PWS).

It costs €7 per day to attend the Open Door Centre but €2,000 a day to run. With planned fundraising events cancelled due to Covid 19, Peter decided to turn it all into a positive situation and with family, set up a fundraiser for Open Door to help fund the activities when the centre re-opens. He has been doing 6,000 steps per day for the whole month of May which was a huge commitment for him and takes a lot of effort.

Peter started off with an very optimistic goal of raising €5,000 but such was the success of the walk and the popularity of ‘Our Peter’ on his travels every day, The fundraising closed at €19,205 last weekend. Peter and his family would like to thank everyone from all circles of life who gave so generously to his walk and Open Door are also very grateful to both Peter and you all for your generosity. Peter, you were famous in the Kilmacanogue area anyway, now you have become a legend, well done.

Pieta House fundraiser

Glencormac United recently set a up a fun fundraiser for Pieta House in honour of the late Patrick (Paddy) King, his sister Fiona and the Dean Norgrove. People were asked to walk, run or cycle 5km, donate €5 and nominate another five to do the same and an ambitious task of reaching €1,000.

The people of the community once again got behind the appeal and it was fantastic to see both individuals and families getting out over the weekend and raising money for such a worthwhile cause.

By the end of this weekend, €2,270 had been donated and nominations while the walk is due to close very shortly, some have been nominated and have still to do their 5km so get cracking this week folks.

Silver wedding anniversary

It was certainly not the way they would have liked to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary as they should have been in Las Vegas but still, Caroline and Shane McNamara made the best of it. A Take away was ordered last Tuesday and they celebrated in an empty Plucks with daughter Hayley and son Andrew and according to Caroline, that’s all that mattered. Congratulations to Shane and Caroline and here’s to the next 25 years of the adventure.

?? ?? The Community of Rockfield Park organised a Social Distancing outdoor Bingo game on Saturday which turned out to be a great success. It is not clear if Alice Connolly won or was just happy to get one number up but our Alice will always keep smiling either way!
