Wicklow Labour to host webinar with Alan Kelly
THE Labour Party in the Wicklow constituency is hosting a webinar on ‘Covid-19: one year on’.
Alan Kelly, party leader, and Dr Anthony O’Connor, consultant in Tallaght Hospital, will speak about Covid-19 and they will be joined on the questions and answers panel by Dr John McManus, a GP in Bray. Councillors Anne Ferris and Paul O’Brien will cochair the event.
The webinar will take place on Wednesday, March 3 at 7 p.m. on the Wicklow Labour Facebook page at https://www.facebook. com/wicklowlabour/.
WICKLOW Local Sports Partnership is in the early stages of developing a walking trails app and are looking on feedback from users over what they would like the app to include.
A short focus group will be formed and input from the group will go towards the development of the app.
Denise O’Shea. Sports Development Officer, Wicklow Local Sports Partnership, said the focus group will be meeting next week via Zoom to establish the app content for the future.
‘We want to find out what people want included on their local walking trails.
‘We have funding for the app from the Dormant Account fund and it will allow users to download different trails in County Wicklow.
‘We haven’t got a name for the app yet but it will be very inclusive. We want to involve everyone, from schools and families to older adults.
‘Some people might want to app to include the history of the trail or what animals live in the area. There will be visualisations involved.’
The plan is to avoid well established walking trails in favour of more localised trails.
‘We don’t really want people to get in the car and drive to one of the better know trails. Instead the focus is on walking trails which are available locally on people’s door steps, without the need for a vehicle,’ said Denise.
The focus group will be made up of eight to ten people from different areas in the Garden County.
‘The group consists of people who walk their local trails. We have one person from Glenmalure for instance on the group. The app could also provide information on the local terrain and its inclines and declines.
‘It’s still at the very early stage but we had something like Pokémon Go in mind. You can catch the animals that pop up on the mobile and you also get a stamp when you complete a trail.
‘QR codes will also be located around the trail which people can interact with.
‘We have already received some great feedback and Sports Ireland are very supportive as this app will be the first of its kind in Ireland,’ added Denise.
