ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

A message from Ann Duffy: It is with great regret to inform you again that the St Patrick’s Day parade in Newtownmountkennedy is cancelled for 2021.

Over the last 30 years we have laughed, cheered and created long lasting memories for our community on this special day. Every year we flock to the main street to watch the parade. How trivial it may seem each year on March 17, we come together as a community to celebrate.

I have always belived that the St Patrick’s Day parade has held a much wider significance in the village of Newtown.

It’s the day we highlight the best of Newtown, the schools, sports clubs, the local businesses and volunteers. They are the beating heart of our community.

The covid-19 pandemic has created many challenges for all of these. I am a strong believer our community groups and businesses will come back stronger.

As we approach the summer months, we can only hope life will return to some sort of normal and once again the organisations, the businesses, the sports clubs, the schools and voulenteers can flourish again in Newtown.

The saying is true. You only miss something when it’s gone.

In 2022 the parade will be back bigger and better. Looking forward to the day we can laugh and celebrate together again. Alone we can do so little together we can do so much.

NORTH WICKLOW COUNTRY MARKET

We are working on an order only basis for the first three weeks. We will be assembling your orders in boxes or bags, to be collected in a drive through operation, cars to drive down side of centre, across the back of hall and up and stop at front door, orders will be handed to you in your car, payment preferably by card, everyone to stay in their cars. Hopefully this will work, and keep everyone safe.

We look forward to seeing you all, and hopefully getting back to normal soon. PS we would appreciate early orders. Check our Facebook page or contact Jackie at 086 8034237 for orders. Market at Newcastle Community Centre.

LITTERING CONCERNS

Please respect our community and the many people, Businesses and groups, who help to keep our town so beautiful and litter-free. Littering and dumping is not acceptable even during a pandemic, so please bring your rubbish, used gloves, used face masks etc home to your household bin and if you see a case of littering/dumping please report to Wicklow Litter Line on 1890 548837.

If the bottle banks in the town are full please do not leave yours around or between the full bins – this is considered dumping and fines will be issued.

KILMURRAY CEMETERIES

The graves at Kilmurray cemeteries are always kept well. Just to remind people when cleaning up to either place rubbish in designated fenced area or bring their rubbish home. Placing it in the ditch or corner is not cleaning up it’s placing it near someone else’s grave. Thank You.
