I have to say I am sorry to see “Grumpy Old Man” columnist Lawrence Rifkin go. If it is due to retirement, may you have a long and happy one; if not, may you enjoy it, “Grumpy” or not. IAN KEMP Nahariya

Although I did not always agree with the content of the Grumpy Old Man column, I always appreciated the high level of journalism it represented.

I was not surprised to learn that the writer, Lawrence Rifkin, was also the editor of the Letters section, which I regularly read and to which I was an occasional contributor.

As editor, Mr. Rifkin provided more than just a venue for the airing of individual issues, but rather a forum for public discourse and exchange of ideas.

I am sure I join a multitude of readers in wishing him well in his future endeavors. MARION REISS Beit Shemesh
