A PLAGUE OF CORRUPTION
Regarding “Surprise me, Moshe Lion” (Observations, Brian Blum, November 23) I have great concern about the questionable election of this new Jerusalem Municipality mayor. There is an extreme stench that infuses the result with skepticism that should concern many taxpayers. This apprehension in particular derives from Lion’s association with convicted felon Arye Deri, a charlatan with a gift for graft, greed and corruption. The offence he was jailed for is bribery. Throughout his public service life, he exploited the trust and confidence that many of his former constituents had for him. This also was the direction that our former discredited and offending mayors Ehud Olmert and Uri Lupolianski continued by following a similar sordid path after being indicted for serious crimes.
How can a political structure allow Deri to function over the past decades as a MK? Is this the standard of morality and character that we manage in our Jewish way of life? Where is our justice system that approves a jailbird to oversee the finances of our government? Are they also incompetent that allow this pest Deri and his cohorts to prolong their years of criminal conduct within the bounds of our immoral and flawed system?
There has to be an outcry and change, or the achievements our previous talented mayor Nir Barkat, who has worked in the tirelessly with outstanding foresight, could go down the drain.
