‘Peace in our time?’ Peace of the grave perhaps, certainly not one to be celebrated

Thank you for last Friday’s cover story (“The battle for Europe,” April 5). I found the articles on Europe very informative, well worth my time. YOSEF WOLICKI Beit Shemesh

I enjoyed reading Gol Kalev’s article on Europe. In Sweden, I’d say we more identify ourselves as Swedish and Scandinavians. I had to think twice when Kalev wrote about the Europeans invading 2,300 years ago – up here in Northern Europe we don’t think of that as Europe invading but rather as Romans invading; the Roman Empire never reached Scandinavia, and we don’t think of the things that southern European or middle Europeans did as “Europeans.”

Sweden has also only been part of the EU the last 20 years. And as in Wales, we’ve never liked Brussels telling about the sizes of cucumbers.

In Isaiah it says Israel is a light for the nations! Regardless if the nations admit it or not .... ULRIKA JOSEFSSON Örebro, Sweden
