FRIEND IN TEXAS
Thank you to Brian Blum for “Palestine is not Ukraine” (March 25). It was well written and many of us in America share the same opinion and feel the same way as we watch Hollywood bash Israel over and over again, just as they choose to bash and mischaracterize other groups.
My family is a Catholic, Republican farming family in rural Texas. You may find it interesting to know that I never saw or knew antisemitism in my typical community – in my entire life of 64 years, I’ve known only one Jewish family, a nice family who lived here and published our local paper. Yet, everyone I know has always supported Israel and we are shocked when we read that American Jews still vote for our Democrat party members who clearly favor and are sympathetic to the Palestine terrorist views.
Our community watched with pleasure to see our embassy moved to Jerusalem finally and we cringed when the Democrat Left characterized Republicans as “far-Right neo-Nazis,” when it is far from the truth as we know it. Just as Putin now characterizes Ukraine as needing to de-nazify.
In writing this letter, I just wanted to add another American perspective and make a dent in the stereotype that Hollywood portrays, not only about Israel, but also Republicans, who really just want less government control, more freedom of speech, gun rights for protection, some border control and a live-and-let-live approach to life – and no, the Republicans are not anti-gay and not anti-diversity.
I add this because in my experience, Republicans in America are the best friends of Israel – and we commiserate with Israel about being mischaracterized by Hollywood and many people in the media. I had a chance to visit Israel for three weeks this past November and I was impressed with the fairness of the people, the culture and the history, which I see as the roots of my own faith.
I enjoy reading The Jerusalem Post, and today, your article. I will be back to visit Israel!
