JOYOUS JEWS

-

Regarding Herb Keinon’s “Figuring out the happy Israeli” (August 26): Everybody has a reason to be happy and we here in Israel, it appears from surveys, are happier than most.

In spite of rockets, terror attacks, and what seems like and probably is never-ending election cycles, we continue to smile in a genuinely not inane way.

I, for one, am not normally prone to display an abundance of happiness but am more than delighted to have the privilege of residing in a nation-state of our own, which in turn always reminds me of the millions that the Holocaust prevented from experiencing.

Yes, there is a high cost of living, housing issues, hostile neighbors and traffic manners that require addressing, but nowhere else on Earth can a Jew truly say with a smile, “I’m home” and know that’s the truth and nothing but the truth.
