BLINKEN’S GLASS HOUSE
Bravo, editor Eric Schachne, for several masterpieces in the April 12 Magazine – Ariel Admoni on Qatar, Giorgia Valente on recruiting lone-wolf terrorists online, and Gil Hoffman’s Eye on the Media column. Finally, Michael Freund’s column is priceless, focusing on American-Jewish Secretary of State Antony Blinken actually accusing Israel of becoming indistinguishable from Hamas and “losing reverence for human life.”
To be undiplomatic, such backward reasoning could only be indulged in by what Menachem Begin called a “weak-kneed Jew” relegating his own beleaguered people to last place.
Blinken said there’s “no higher priority than protecting civilians, surging humanitarian assistance, and ensuring the security of those who provide it.” Exactly! The civilians needing protection are seven million Israeli Jews – even if that regrettably endangers seven individuals (from World Central Kitchen) in the war zone.
“Humanitarian assistance”? That’s what IDF soldiers are providing to the seven million. “Ensuring the security of those providing humanitarian assistance”? Those are Israel’s soldiers.
“Woefully insufficient, unacceptable”? That’s not Israel, that’s Blinken’s understanding of the war. Blinken, of all people, is bashing Israel’s peerless soldiers for doing exactly the right thing – namely, protecting the many, albeit inadvertently, unavoidably harming the few?
Tragically, calamities happen, such as the accidental killing of the seven aid workers. Blinken must consider the following 10 calamities of this past year that each claimed seven lives, some in his own country, some even on his own watch:
1. April 16, 2023, seven killed by gunmen at a resort in Mexico.
2. May 3, 2023, seven dead in an Oklahoma murder-suicide.
3. May 22, 2023, seven killed in a crash near Albany, New York.
4. October 26, 2023, seven dead in a Louisiana I-55 pileup.
5. November 8, 2023, seven killed in a crash near Batesville, Texas.
6. Mid-November, 2023, seven shot in Chicago over a single weekend.
7. February 24, 2024, seven farmworkers killed in a head-on crash in Central California.
8. March 11, 2024, seven Virginia residents killed when a van collided with a semi-trailer.
9. Easter weekend, 2024, seven killed by gunfire in Chicago.
10. April 13, 2024, mall rampage in Sydney, Australia, leaves seven dead.
Blinken is encouraging antisemitism, the opposite of humanitarianism, worldwide. SUSIE DYM Rehovot
