Mirrored security fence to create illusion of roomier, more pleasant Palestinian areas
The Defense Ministry is considering a mirrored security barrier for the West Bank, to make the Palestinian villages there feel roomier, sources at the ministry told The Jerusalem Roast Friday.
Following international condemnation of Israeli plans to build in E1, and amid reports that National Security Adviser Yaakov Amidror told a closed government meeting that Israel’s settlement policies are hurting it diplomatically, the Defense Ministry has begun drafting a plan to cover the entire easternfacing side of the fence and wall with mirrored panels.
The proposal also includes affixing camouflaged loudspeakers at 500meter intervals, which will be programmed to play sounds of nature albums, creating what one source called a “pastoral feeling of wide-open spaces and big sky country.”
A Defense Ministry contractor said that in the early hours of the day, as the sun rises from the East, the majority of Palestinians will be temporarily blinded by the glare and will feel a “mild heat blast,” though this should taper off around noontime.
The mirrored wall program – code named “Vanity Fence” – is part of a series of measures proposed by the ministry to ease the burden on the Palestinian population, including installing Wi-Fi at all West Bank checkpoints and casual Thursdays and meatloaf Mondays at Ofer Prison.
