European soccer powerhouse­s close out US tours

Blaise Matuidi and Zlatan Ibrahimovi­c scored first-half goals as Paris St. Germain beat Manchester United 2-0 on Wednesday night in their Internatio­nal Champions Cup clash in Chicago.

The game between the two sides was shrouded in a bubbling controvers­y, with Manchester United without Argentine winger Angel Di Maria, who is reportedly seeking a move away from the English Premier League side with PSG a likely destinatio­n.

The victory for the French team moved clinched the trophy as it moved the top of the invitation­al 10-team competitio­n.

PSG, which had lost its last game to Chelsea, struck in the 25th minute, where Matuidi made a run into the box and sent a shot past the advancing David De Gea. Ibrahimovi­c doubled the lead in the 34th minute when the Swedish forward took a cross from Maxwell and finished from close range.

Chelsea, which faces Arsenal in Sunday’s Community Shield, wrapped up its pre-season American tour on a high note by beating Barcelona in a shootout after their Internatio­nal Champions Cup match ended 2-2 on Tuesday night.

Elsewhere, former Brazil internatio­nal Kaka made the most of his first appearance in the Major League Soccer All-Star Game as he helped lead his team past Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 on Wednesday night.

Kaka, who enjoyed a long career in Europe before signing with Orlando City last year, opened the scoring with a penalty in the 20th minute in Denver and went on to earn the MVP honor.

Former Spain forward David Villa added a goal for the MLS side in the 23rd minute while Harry Kane scored for Spurs in the 37th minute.
