Raising the curtain for dance

- • By ORI J. LENKINSKI

This November, immediately following the close of the holiday season, the Culture and Sports Ministry will present its flagship dance project, the Curtain Up Festival. A springboard for countless independent choreographers and the most important platform for new dance works in Israel, Curtain Up will hit stages in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Dimona and Kibbutz Ga’aton. Now in its 27th year, the program boasts nine premieres by up-and-coming local artists. Curated by artistic directors Itzik Guili and Hillel Kogan, the festival is divided into four curtains, each with its own energy and aesthetic. The 10 choreographers selected to participate this year are Nadar Rosano, Andrea Constanza-Martini, Assaf Aharonson, Tami Leibovich, Sahar Damoni, Michal Sammema, Merav Dagan and Stav Marin, Shira Eviatar and Adi Boutrous. For these artists, Curtain Up presents a unique opportunity to experiment with new practices and methods and to show the fruits of this research to a wide range of audience members.

The Curtain Up Festival will take place from November 3- 19. For more information visit www.suzannedellal.org.il
