- • By JUDY SIEGEL (MDA)

Magen David Adom officials have met with the Albanian Red Cross’s president and secretary-general to discuss how the first-aid, ambulance and blood-supply societies can enhance cooperation. During the visit, MDA presented details of its capabilities and operations at home and abroad.

This is the first time that high-level representatives of the Albanian Red Cross have visited Israel. During their visit, they toured MDA’s national command and control center and attended a lecture about the organization’s main missions: emergency medical services, blood services center and disaster relief.

At the end of the visit, Albanian Red Cross president Ylli Alushi and secretary-general Artur Katuci invited MDA director-general Eli Bin and other officials to visit Albania to learn about its activities there, including its firstaid tutorials, blood donation programs and humanitarian projects in vulnerable communities.

Alushi and Katuci said that the Albanian Red Cross is looking forward to collaborating with the MDA for the welfare of both countries’ residents.

Albania, which was formerly a communist country, is today a parliamentary republic. It is located in southeast Europe, bordered by Montenegro to the northwest, Kosovo to the northeast, Macedonia to the east and Greece to the south and southeast.

“We are honored to have the opportunity to share the knowledge and experience accumulated at MDA over the years and would be happy to have additional opportunities in the future.” Bin said. “Saving lives is the strong value upon which MDA was established and we embrace any opportunity to implement that across all borders.”
