Kfar Blum begins musical season

The 15th annual Musical Weekend season is up and running at Kfar Blum. The upcoming slot takes place January 26-28 and features the music of fabled poet-musicians Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, and examines the so-called Jewish Connection. The lineup of acts that will pay tribute to Cohen, who died in November at age 82, and to the recent recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature, includes The Sixties band, Sivan Talmor, Israel Kanias and Sharon Moldavi.

Later in the season, there will be a slot devoted to musicians who grew up on kibbutzim, including the likes of Rachel Shapira, Naomi Shemer and Matti Caspi, with Caspi starring at Kfar Blum over the February 9-11 weekend. That will be followed by a February 23-25 tribute to preeminent songwriter­s Ehud Manor and Nurit Hirsh, with numbers performed by members of the Israel Opera.

The March 23-25 weekend will form part of the Spring Festival classical music event, and will focus on the sound of the cello, with Spring Festival artistic director and internatio­nally acclaimed cellist Zvi Plesser in the thick of things.

The April installmen­t is a weekend of choral music, with entertainm­ent provided by the Barrocade ensemble, the Tel Aviv Chamber Choir and the Upper Galilee Choir, conducted by Ron Zarhi. The final Musical Weekend of the current season goes by the name of Current Affairs and Nostalgia, and takes an a wide range of musical and other fare, including standup comedian Kobi Arieli, TV presenter and lecturer Kobi Meidan and musician Itai Perl, with Uri Harpaz presenting a tribute to Israel Prize laureate songwriter Nachum Heiman who died last August.
