1. Advancing education
The Society for Advancement of Education (SAE) recently celebrated its annual gala at the Avenue Convention & Events Center in Airport-City. Incoming SAE chairman, Eyal Waldman, who is founder and CEO of Mellanox and has an honorary doctorate from the Technion, told the crowd that as the head of a company that produces technological tools for scientists, developers and entrepreneurs, he’s aware of the tremendous importance of promoting education and learning among budding scientists. In addition, last year’s gala chairman Nahum Feinberg and founder Dr. David Portowicz also gave speeches during the evening. Attending the evening were Orit Benvenisti, Chaim and Naomi Horowitz, Doron Sapir, Dan Margalit, Yosef Bar Natan, Ofra and Israel Reif, Ofra Strauss, Ofer and Ravit Nimrodi, Ronen Barel, Ilan Greenboim, Yodfat and Pinhas Buchris, Ilan Birenfeld and Roni Weiss.
2. Intendu
Aliza Dayanim, whiskey category manager at Tempo beverages, has announced the creation of Brenda Zeitlin’s new startup Intendu, which will be the Israeli representative in Chivas Regal’s global competition called The Venture. Involved in the promotion of the social investment project are: Esther Barak Landes, founder and manager of Nielsen Innovate Fund; Cecile Blilious, founder and director of the vFirst Impact Investment Fund; and Yoel Cheshin, founder and chairman of 2B Angels.
3. Moran Choir
Friends of the Moran Choir gathered on Wednesday evening to celebrate 30 years of social and musical activity. The program was hosted by Raya Strauss, chairman Shmuel Ben Dror, and Moriel Matalon. Naomi Faran, the conductor, founder and musical director of the choir, led her singers in an exciting musical performance. In addition, the social choir in which children at risk are included, also performed during the event. Noam Lautman, chairman of the Lautman Foundation, attended the event.
4. Beit Hatfutsot
Irina Nevzlin, chairwoman of Beit Hatfutsot, announced that the museum recently received a generous donation of $10 million from the San Francisco-based Koret Foundation. Nevzlin expressed satisfaction that more and more international funds and private donors are contributing to Beit Hatfutsot, and stated that she plans to use the recently received funds to build the Koret International School of the Jewish People, which will promote the museum’s educational activities in Israel and around the world.
5. Amal Group
The Amal Group, which supports people with special needs, recently held its national entrepreneurship competition finals at the Peres Center for Peace in Jaffa. Amal Educational Network CEO Ravit Dom-Eini welcomed guests and announced that, starting this year, the competition will be named after Shimon Peres, the country’s 9th president. In attendance were Chemi Peres, chairman of the Peres Center and a partner of the Pitango venture capital fund; Elisha Yanai, chairman of Israel Association of Electronics and Software Industries; Yosef Meyouhas, Marvell Israel general-manager; Avi Nissenkorn, chairman of the Histadrut;
and Alona Barkat.
