1. Orr Shalom
Last week Oren Plotkin, the chairman of Orr Shalom, and a real estate developer and owner of Plotkin Group, hosted the organization’s annual fundraiser in his home. Ruth Rappaport, 93, was presented with a special award for her many years of support of the organization, and especially her founding of Beit Goldschmidt, a home for at-risk girls. Singer Rotem Cohen performed during the evening, and was joined by Limor Ataliah Shmeltzer and her daughter Ofra Reif; Mimi and Danny Luzon; and Michal and Avner Stefak who have been volunteering with Orr Shalom for many years.
2. WeizmannVibe
Young women and men entrepreneurs were recently invited to an evening called WeizmannVibe, the youth club run by the Friends of the Weizmann Institute of Science. The event, which took place at the Zappa Club Herzliya, was sponsored by Swiss bank Pictet. The evening included a lecture titled, ‘The immune system of bacteria,’ given by Prof. Rotem Sorek, of the Weizmann Institute Department of Molecular Genetics. Attending the evening were Professor Daniel Zajfman, the president, Weizmann Institute; , Shimshon Harel, chairman of the Association of Friends of the Institute, and owner and CEO of America-Israel; Yael Goren-Wegman, executive director at WeizmannVibe; and Amir Shaltiel, Young Friends Club chair and chairman of the Eldar Group.
3. In the Tunnel
Last Thursday a premiere showing of In the Tunnel was held at the Gesher Theater in Jaffa. Theater members who attended this modern political satire were asked to participate in a vote before the show the results of which were announced at the end of the performance. Welcoming the guests were Gesher Theater chairman Eli Zohar and his wife Nili; Friends of the theater chairman Israel Makov and his wife Bella Lustig; Gesher CEO Lena Kreindlin; and director of the Friends organization Ruthy Heilpern.
4. Hadassah
Ronnie Kobrovsky, president of the Central Bottling Company Group, and his wife Etti hosted the Hadassah Israel International meeting in their home in Ramat Hasharon. Hadassah members gathered to hear a review of the past year’s operations in all Hadassah hospital facilities throughout the country from Hadassah International chairwoman Dalia Itzik and Hadassah Medical Center Director-General Prof. Zeev Rothstein. Among the guests were Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan and his wife Shlomit; Ruth Rothstein; chairman of Hadassah Medical Center Erez Meltzer; Adina and Rami Levy, who was awarded a shield as an active member of the board; and Linda Sagol, who accepted a shield in place of her son, Yossi Sagol.
5. CYBER Conference
The 4th International HLS & CYBER Conference opened last week in Tel Aviv. Speakers at the event included Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) chief Nadav Argaman, who also toured the Shin Bet’s challenging “Escape Bus” which took place inside a real bus; Dr. Yossi Vardi, conference chairman; Gil Shwed, co-founder and CEO of Check Point Software Technologies; and former IDF Air Force commander Ido Nehushtan, who is a senior strategic adviser at EMC.
