Peterson headed to Saints, Pats snag Gillislee

-

Free agent running back Adrian Peterson said on Tuesday that he will sign with the New Orleans Saints on a two-year deal that is effectively a one-year deal plus a one-year option worth $7 million, plus another potential $8 million in target-based incentives.

Peterson, who turned 32 last month, left the Minnesota Vikings as one of the best players in franchise history. He was released on March 9 after the team declined the 2017 option on his contract. The 2012 NFL MVP, Peterson spent his first 10 seasons with the Vikings and ranks 16th in NFL history with 11,747 rushing yards.

In other NFL news, Seattle GM John Schneider said the Seahawks have “moved past” the idea of trading four-time Pro Bowl selection Richard Sherman, while the New England Patriots similarly appear unlikely to trade cornerback Malcolm Butler this offseason.

Also, running back Mike Gillislee signed with the Patriots after the Buffalo Bills decided not to match the two-year contract offer worth a little over $6 million.
