Melo won’t waive no-trade to join Cavs

The chatter about Carmelo Anthony joining the Cleveland Cavaliers increased earlier this summer, as reports surfaced that Anthony was only willing to waive his no-trade clause for a chance to join the Cavaliers or Houston Rockets.

But according to the New York Post, Anthony has changed his mind and is no longer interested in playing for the Cavs, especially after Kyrie Irving’s recent trade demand.

Instead, Anthony only wants to be traded to the Rockets, a Western Conference contender that boasts Anthony’s buddy Chris Paul and MVP runner-up James Harden.

Trade speculation started a few months ago, as then-president Phil Jackson made it clear Anthony would be better off elsewhere.

Shortly after the Knicks parted ways with Jackson, they briefly paused discussions. But the Knicks, who have decided to go younger and rebuild this off-season, still obviously have an interest in dealing Anthony – provided they can find a trade that works.

With Anthony originally saying he would be willing to join the Cavs and Irving having the Knicks as one of his four preferred destinations, there was some thought that an Anthony-Irving deal would have made sense in some capacity. If Anthony isn’t willing to waive his no-trade clause to join the Cavaliers, it’s hard to see another deal between the two teams.

Anthony is signed through the 2017-18 season and has a player option for 2018-19. The Oklahoma City Thunder and Portland Trail Blazers have also been eyeing Anthony. But, for now, it appears he has set his sights on join-
