- • By UDI SHAHAM

The Israel Police and the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) arrested a 52-year-old man in a joint operation on Sunday based on information that he was planning to carry out a terrorist attack.

The joint forces apprehended the man in the southern Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Safafa.

During the operation, the man’s home was surrounded and he was shot in the foot. He was taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center for treatment.

It was reported that neighbors of the suspect claim that he recently had gone through a heart pacemaker implantation.

No further details on the terrorist plot or the identity of the suspect have been released.

This comes a day after a 31-year-old man was stabbed and lightly wounded by a Palestinian in Sultan Suleiman Street in east Jerusalem.

The assailant, a 29-year-old mother of five who has an Israeli residency permit and lives in the Sur Baher neighborhood, approached the victim near the Damascus Gate light rail station and stabbed him in the shoulder. Medics described his injuries as light.

Before the attack, the assailant had tried to stab another man, but failed.

Last week five Palestinian residents of Hebron were arrested in the village of al-Azaria suspected for planning to carry out an attack.
