WASHINGTON – Three senior Trump administration officials will visit Israel and the Palestinian territories during the last week of August, hoping to reboot direct peace talks.

Jared Kushner, the US president’s sonin-law turned senior adviser tasked with leading a Middle East peace process; along with Jason Greenblatt, special representative for international negotiations; and Dina Powell, deputy national security adviser, will also visit Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.

In preparation for the trip, Greenblatt met with the head of the PLO Mission to the United States, Husam Zomlot, at the White House on Tuesday, the mission said in a statement.

Zomlot “reaffirmed the full readiness of the Palestinian leadership to support President Trump’s efforts to reach a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian-Israeli issue,” reads the statement.

“He added that arrangements have been made for the meeting between the American delegation and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah to discuss the next steps required for achieving peace in the region.” •
