Trump del­e­ga­tion due at end of month

WASH­ING­TON – Three se­nior Trump ad­min­is­tra­tion of­fi­cials will visit Is­rael and the Palestinia­n territorie­s dur­ing the last week of Au­gust, hop­ing to re­boot di­rect peace talks.

Jared Kush­ner, the US pres­i­dent’s sonin-law turned se­nior ad­viser tasked with lead­ing a Mid­dle East peace process; along with Jason Green­blatt, spe­cial rep­re­sen­ta­tive for in­ter­na­tional ne­go­ti­a­tions; and Dina Pow­ell, deputy na­tional se­cu­rity ad­viser, will also visit Saudi Ara­bia, Jor­dan, Qatar, Egypt and the United Arab Emi­rates.

In prepa­ra­tion for the trip, Green­blatt met with the head of the PLO Mis­sion to the United States, Husam Zom­lot, at the White House on Tues­day, the mis­sion said in a state­ment.

Zom­lot “reaf­firmed the full readi­ness of the Palestinia­n lead­er­ship to sup­port Pres­i­dent Trump’s ef­forts to reach a com­pre­hen­sive so­lu­tion to the Palestinia­n-Israeli is­sue,” reads the state­ment.

“He added that ar­range­ments have been made for the meet­ing be­tween the Amer­i­can del­e­ga­tion and Palestinia­n Pres­i­dent Mah­moud Ab­bas in Ra­mal­lah to dis­cuss the next steps re­quired for achiev­ing peace in the re­gion.” •
