Jackets grab 2-0 lead on Capitals

Matt Calvert scored 12:22 into overtime, and the Columbus Blue Jackets again rallied from an early two-goal deficit to defeat the host Washington Capitals 5-4 in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference firstround series on Sunday night.

Columbus trailed 2-0 in each of the first two games yet holds a 2-0 lead in the best-ofseven set.

Washington held a pair of two-goal leads in Game 2. The Capitals were up 2-0 in the first period and 3-1 in the second (behind two power-play goals from Alex Ovechkin) before the Blue Jackets answered with three consecutiv­e goals.

Josh Anderson, Cam Atkinson and Zach Werenski all scored in a span of 10:03 in the second period for a 4-3 Columbus lead. Capitals forward T.J. Oshie tied it with 3:35 left in regulation on the fourth Washington power play of the period.

Golden Knights 3, Kings 2

James Neal’s tie-breaking goal at 14:23 of the third period lifted Vegas to its initial road playoff victory, a decision over host Los Angeles that gives the Golden Knights a 3-0 lead in their Western Conference quarterfin­al series.

William Karlsson tacked on insurance 21 seconds later with his first goal of the playoffs. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS captain Sidney Crosby (right) tied his playoff career-high with four points (a goal and three assists) in the Penguins’ 5-1 road victory over the Philadelph­ia Flyers on Sunday night, a result that gave Pittsburgh a 2-1 lead in the firstround playoff series. That turned out to be valuable when Anze Kopitar deflected a point shot by Fantenberg at 17:56 to draw the Kings within a goal, but the Golden Knights held on.

Marc-Andre Fleury withstood a barrage in net for Vegas, making 37 saves, including 16 in the third period. The Golden Knights can advance to the second round with a win in Game 4 on Tuesday night at Los Angeles.

Penguins 5, Flyers 1

Sidney Crosby scored one goal and added three assists as visiting Pittsburgh defeated Philadelph­ia.

Justin Schultz, Derick Brassard, Evgeni Malkin and Brian Dumoulin also scored for the Penguins, who took a 2-1 lead in first-round Eastern Conference playoff series.

Kris Letang also had two assists for the Penguins and goaltender Matt Murray was terrific with 26 saves. Travis Sanheim scored for the Flyers, who got 21 saves from Brian Elliott.

Wild 6, Jets 2

Jordan Greenway became the first player in Wild franchise history to score his first NHL goal in the playoffs, and Minnesota romped to a victory over visiting Winnipeg.

Mikael Granlund, Zach Parise, Matt Dumba, Eric Staal, Greenway and Marcus Foligno all scored in the first two periods as the Wild cut their deficit to 2-1 in the Western Conference first-round series. Greenway, a 21-year-old left winger, had played in six games in the regular season.

Blake Wheeler and Tyler Myers scored for Winnipeg.
