Tiger: No time to soak up 1st victory in over 5 years

-

Shortly after Tiger Woods finished his media tour and a signing at the team hotel Sunday night, the newly minted Tour Championship winner was whisked to a plane heading to France.

Team USA landed in Paris on Monday afternoon and took the rest of the day off before heading out to Le Golf National for the first time on Tuesday. It was one of three practice rounds for the players ahead of Friday’s kickoff to the Ryder Cup.

Needless to say, there was little time for Woods to relish his first PGA Tour victory in more than five years. He said he’s still “north” of 150 text messages alone to respond to following Sunday’s victory.

“I haven’t really had a lot of time to soak it in,” he told reporters on Tuesday. “I will post-Ryder Cup. I’ll take a look back and reflect on it.”

Woods has risen from No. 1,199 in the world rankings to begin 2018 to No. 13. After a string of promising top-10 finishes that helped him become a captain’s pick for the Ryder Cup, Woods finally got over the hump at East Lake in Atlanta on Sunday and arrived in France as arguably the hottest player on Team USA.

Woods has played in seven previous Ryder Cups, but has been part of only one winning team and enters the week with a career record of 13-17-3 in the event. He holds a 4-1-2 mark in singles matches, but he is just 4-8-1 in foursomes and 5-8-0 in four-balls.

“We haven’t done well,” Woods said of the Ryder Cups he has played in. “My overall Ryder Cup record, not having won as a player since 1999, is something that hopefully we can change.” (Reuters)
