MAN Lion’s City bus gets innovation award
The German gas industry awarded the new MAN Lion’s City bus with the E18 gas engine the 2018 Innovation Award in the category of mobility and transportation at a ceremony held in Berlin, Germany. The jury noted that the vehicles were economically and environmentally friendly.
The German gas industry praised the use of natural gas as a source of energy for cars. German Education and Research Minister Anja Karliczek ranked the MAN Lion’s City hybrid bus as second place in the mobility and transportation category. The minister noted that when it comes to commercial and public vehicles, MAN provides a good example.
The gas version of the new generation urban buses, which was shown this year at the prestigious IAA vehicle show in Hanover, represents new capabilities for the E18 series of engines. Compared to its predecessor, the gas engine offers higher torque, making it stronger.
“MAN has been a leader in natural gas technology in Europe for a long period of time. To succeed in producing this advanced engine, we have had 75 years of experience in the field of gas engines. That is why I am especially pleased that we succeeded in convincing the jury that we were chosen to be the winners of the innovation award of the German gas industry, with exceptional economic efficiency and very low emissions,” said Rudi Kuchta, MAN’s product and sales manager.
The special part of the Lion’s City G bus is the combination of the hybrid engine, which makes the bus both economical and environmentally friendly, thus providing an ideal solution for urban public transport.
This is an important step for MAN and other transport companies in terms of combating air pollution. In Israel, MAN is represented by the Automotive Equipment Group.
