A one-year-old baby boy was killed in Hod Hasharon on Friday morning after being stabbed allegedly by his father. He had been evacuated to hospital by Magen David Adom in a critical condition.

In addition, a three-year-old girl and a 36-year-old woman were seriously injured.

The woman’s condition, which is still classified as critical, improved on Saturday morning and she was able to breathe on her own. Police have yet to question the woman in light of her medical conditions.

Initial investigations indicate the father stabbed his son, his daughter and wife, before trying to stab himself, inside the family’s home, according to Maariv. The wife appears to have attempted to escape with her daughter and shouted to neighbors from the yard, who then contacted the emergency services.

The 33-year-old was unable to explain his motives, saying ““I went crazy. I don’t remember what happened to me,” and he only remembered taking a knife and stabbing, according to Channel 12. The suspect, who police think is withholding information, was released from the hospital on Saturday and brought to police questioning.

Blue and White leader Benny Gantz later responded to the event on his Facebook page.

“A horrific murder happened this morning in Hod Hasharon, in which a baby boy who less than a year old lost his life. I spoke with my colleague, [Hod Hasharon] Mayor Amir Kochavi, who is on the ground and is helping the family and the authorities. At this point, with the details and circumstances still under review – I would just like to say to each and every one of you: If you see a person in distress, do not hesitate to contact the authorities and intervene. It saves lives.”

United Hatzalah volunteer emergency medical technicians Oren Levy and Roey Baharuzi, who were among the first responders at the scene, later recounted the event. “When we arrived at the scene we provided treatment to a year-old infant who was critically injured, to a young girl and a woman who were both seriously injured and to a man who was lightly injured.

“Following the initial treatment that they received at the scene, the injured were transported to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva and Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba.”
