Be happy
In “Israel 14th happiest country in annual UN survey,” (March 23), we learn that Zimbabwe is one of the three least happy countries.
If we are enjoined to give credit where credit is due, we may also allocate blame where blame is due. It has been said that under Robert Mugabe, who was prime minister and then president in the period from 1980 to 2017, Zimbabwe, formerly Rhodesia, went from being the breadbasket of Africa to its basket case.
His critics accuse him of having been a dictator responsible for economic mismanagement, widespread corruption, anti-white racism, human rights abuses and crimes against humanity. None of those things tend to make many people particularly happy.
