Michaeli defers car-safety reform

- • Jerusalem Post Staff

The Knesset Economic Affairs Committee should postpone until next June the obligation to install a new safety system that warns against forgetting children in vehicles, Transportation Minister Merav Michaeli decided Tuesday. The law was supposed to go into effect on August 1.

The original proposal by former transportation minister Miri Regev was widely lauded. But it was also criticized because Regev had only authorized a small number of systems for use, which caused it to be very expensive.
