Tehran, the series from Kan 11 about a Mossad agent, Tamar Rabinyan (Niv Sultan), who goes undercover in Iran to disable the nuclear program, will begin broadcasting its second season on May 5 in Israel and on May 6 on Apple TV + around the world. The series won the International Emmy for Best Drama Series last year.

Kan released a trailer from the new season. Sultan is back in the lead role and Iranian-Jewish actor Shaun Toub is returning as her nemesis. The highest profile newcomer this season will be Glenn Close. She appears in the trailer, dressed in the traditional garb of an Iranian woman and speaking in a British accent and seems to be Tamar’s new handler. In a previously released trailer, Close tells Sultan, “Now that we are working together, my life depends on the decisions you make.” The new trailer shows scenes of action and intrigue, with glittering nightlife and car chases, making Tamar look like the new James Bond.

The series was written by Moshe Zonder, who wrote the first season of Fauda, and Omri Shenhar, who wrote the series Magpie. It was directed by Daniel Syrkin, who worked on such similarly themed dramatic series as Mossad 101 and The Gordin Cell. Tehran was created by Zonder, along with Maor Cohen and Eden, and its producers include Shula Spiegel. KAN 11 produced the series with the Canadian company Cineflix Rights, with the German and Belgian Paperplane Productions, as well as Dana Eden and Shula Spiegel Productions.
