Faded Patterns
The new rugs created by French designer Inga Sempé for Golran’s Meteo Collection display a sensitive, poetic and indeed evanescent use of colour. Subtle faded effects are produced by the geometric designs: the blurred lines of each individual pattern are obtained by reinterpreting a Nepalese craft skill, the effect of which is not unlike that achieved by the Pointillism art movement. The individual coloured threads of wool and silk are woven into each point of the composition, as if each knot was an individual mosaic tile. The Halo, Mirage and Tumulte models, each of which presents its own particular pattern using different colours, reinterpret in a contemporary key the decorative dimension of Golran’s Persian roots. The six stations that make up the new Wehrhahn line of Düsseldorf metro running east-west across the city opened recently. After winning an international competition in, the netzwerkarchitekten designers and artist Heike Klussmann embarked upon a collective undertaking that took 15 years and involved a separate artist working on each of the stops, while the connecting tunnels were given a coordinated look. Ursula Damm chose an LED screen that projects the movement of passengers and continually transforms the space. Thomas Stricker took science fiction as his theme, creating a space-age station with large windows offering views of a universe of 3D animations. Manuel Franke’s station takes a very different approach based on the bold use of colour, while Enne Haehnle opted for three-dimensional lines of poetry that can only be read from certain angles. Heike Klussmann created white bands running along the wall and ceiling surfaces (pictured) and Ralf Brögha designed audio-visual performance spaces for the work of sound artists.
