A UNIQUE EVENT
Burning Man is a festival that has been held every September since 1986 in Black Rock City, Nevada, a temporary metropolis created on a dusty lakebed in the Black Rock desert. The name refers to the ritual burning of a giant wooden effigy of a man at the end of the event. Some 70,000 people gather for the eight-day event, which includes art exhibitions, installations and performances, as well as the construction of provisional architecture in what is also a kind of cathartic experience. Everyone brings their own camping equipment (including electricity generators), food and water, because only ice and coffee is available at the site. Gifting is the only accepted method for acquiring goods at Black Rock City and cellphones do not work there.
