WE DON’T NEED ANO­THER HE­RO è il ti­to­lo del­la de­ci­ma edi­zio­ne del­la Bien­na­le di Ber­li­no che guar­da all’Afri­ca (9 giu­gno – 9 feb­bra­io). So­lo 46 ar­ti­sti ma in cin­que se­di, co­me or­mai nel DNA nomade del­la Bien­na­le. Al­la sua gui­da è la cu­ra­tri­ce Ga­bi Ng­co­bo, su­da­fri­ca­na, da sem­pre fo­ca­liz­za­ta sull’ar­te con­tem­po­ra­nea del suo con­ti­nen­te, ma non so­lo. L’idea è met­te­re sul ta­vo­lo i gran­di te­mi geo­po­li­ti­ci e d’in­te­gra­zio­ne. «L’ar­te può ri­leg­ge­re e nor­ma­liz­za­re il con­cet­to di mi­gra­zio­ne e di ca­sa», con­si­de­ra una del­le ar­ti­ste coin­vol­te, Don­na Ku­ka­ma, an­che lei su­da­fri­ca­na. WE DON’T NEED ANO­THER HE­RO is the ti­tle of the Berlin Bien­na­le, who­se ten­th edi­tion (9 Ju­ne – 9 Fe­brua­ry) fo­cu­ses on Afri­ca. It brings to­ge­ther 46 ar­tists in no fewer than fi­ve ve­nues, in li­ne wi­th the no­ma­dic na­tu­re of the Bien­na­le. This year’s edi­tion is being run by Ga­bi Ng­co­bo, a Sou­th Afri­can who has al­ways fo­cu­sed on the con­tem­po­ra­ry art of her con­ti­nent (and of others too). The idea is to bring to the ta­ble ma­jor geo­po­li­ti­cal is­sues and the que­stion of in­te­gra­tion. “Art can rein­ter­pret and nor­ma­li­se the con­cept of mi­gra­tion and of ho­me,” says one of the ar­tists in­vol­ved, Don­na Ku­ka­ma.
