IN CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, ALPINE ARCHITECTURE MEETS DESIGN AND FOLKLORE AT DOLOMITI LODGE ALVERÀ. Milan, Salone del Mobile 2017. Claudio Alverà, in town for the event, was wandering the city center in the evening. A bright window caught his eye, because he thought he saw a polar bear. He went over for a closer look. Actually it was a sofa, Pack by the designer Francesco Binfaré, produced by Edra. He decided it was a must for his new hotel, Dolomiti Lodge Alverà, in Cortina d’Ampezzo, still under construction. Alverà explains: «The project began about ten years ago. An initial version by the architect Matteo Thun was rejected by the local authorities as too modern. Then, thanks to Moreno Trisorio, a designer based in Bolzano, we developed a modern solution more in tune with the Alpine style». The pitched roof and many of the floors and ceilings are antique, taken from demolished buildings. Large high-tech windows bring light to all the spaces and offer breathtaking views. Eight rooms, two suites. But what about the polar bear? Monica Mazzei, vice-president of Edra, explains: «Claudio went to our dealer in Belluno and ordered Pack. I decided to visit the Lodge. The bear is in the lobby, where all the guests take turns on it for selfies. The hotel is furnished with other Edra classics». There are also lights by iGuzzini and Studio Italia Design, and two amazing fireplaces by Giancarlo Candeago.
