ON THE 9TH FLOOR OF A HISTORIC BUILDING IN MAYFAIR, A LUMINOUS FLAT BECOMES A MANIFESTO OF MADE IN ITALY.
The 9th floor used to house the servants. Today, thanks to a project by the firm Maurizio Pellizzoni Ltd, it hosts a large residence incorporating two of the original lodgings in a new layout to expand the living area. «To create a sort of manifesto of Made in Italy», Pellizzoni says, «I chose a total look by Minotti, the perfect expression of clean, timeless elegance. It took some doing to convince the developer – Sandringham Land – but in the end we were granted complete freedom». Besides collaborating with Minotti London, the project involves Maddox Gallery for contemporary artworks that will be shown in rotation inside the flat. The result is a unique solution for the Mayfair housing market. Grays and blues are warmed by wood and gold finishes, and the furnishings are discreet, non-invasive presences: «The
Russell sofa designed by Rodolfo Dordoni has a soft, curved form, drawing the gaze to the terrace and the view of London’s landmarks», Pellizzoni says. The living and bedroom areas are separated by sliding doors in American walnut. The Freeman bench, at the edge of a custom Stepevi carpet, leaves an open perspective when the doors are open. The kitchen is intentionally small but functional, in Steel Gray matte lacquer, with worktops in Blanco Zeus Silestone. The professional appliances include an oven and range by Gaggenau. Close attention has been paid to every detail, in keeping with the approach of the interior designer born near Lake Como: «I even chose the books on the shelves, and every single object», Pellizzoni says. «I wanted the place to feel real, lived-in, welcoming, not like a standard investment property». A home, in short.
