On the rocks
AT ÈZE, ON THE FRENCH RIVIERA, THE HOME OF ARTIST MARC FERRERO BRINGS TOGETHER PLACES AND STORIES.
In 2005, in a gallery at Èze, Marc Ferrero, artist, married to Sabine, with two children, met the architect Alexandre Vuillaume, who was to become the designer of the family’s dream house, 850 square meters on the Corniche, overlooking the sea and Monte Carlo. The modern three-story structure, which adapts to the steep terrain, is a mixture of Mediterranean architecture and Bauhaus, with very
simple lines and exceptional views of the sea. «We wanted a contemporary house in which to place my paintings, but not a gallery», says Marc Ferrero, whose art is inspired by the world of comics. A grand almost Hollywood-like staircase leads down from the entrance to the living area. The open space of 250 square meters is connected to the large kitchen and dining room in a continuous sequence. A large Rain chandelier by Studio Italia Design looms over the dark glass table. Unlike the rest of the living area, based on pale tones of pearl and cream, the walls in the dining area are in anthracite gray, to set off the artworks. The paintings are everywhere, starting with the work Lipstick, which has become the central focus of Ferrero’s collaboration with Hublot. With comfortable custom seating and a double fireplace, the living area opens to the gulf between Cap Ferrat and Cap d’Ail with full-height glass doors leading to a large terrace. The outdoor pool is joined by a hidden “Zen” garden, a Balinese bar and a Moroccan cooking zone, in which to entertain guests who can also enjoy independent rooms, a wellness area and an indoor pool.
