TERRITORY AND TRADITION: THE NEW RESIDENTIAL PROJECT BY MASSIMILIANO & DORIANA FUKSAS IN SARDINIA.
The 15 villas designed by Massimiliano Fuksas on 500 hectares of Mediterranean brushland near Chia, in southern Sardinia, are shaped in waterproof Tadelakt, as in Moroccan baths, with its typical undulated surface. The complex is known as Is Molas, inside the golf resort of the same name, which includes a 4-star hotel and a clubhouse. «For Is Molas we have built a new geography», Fuksas explains. «Everything is perfectly inserted in the landscape. We have conserved the surroundings and inserted the volumes in a discreet way». The project is still in progress, and also calls for expansion of the golf course, and other new facilities. «The spa is one of the most striking features we have in mind, in the spirit of the villas, which are like inhabitable sculptures», Fuksas continues. With Is Molas, Massimiliano Fuksas has “discovered” the coast near Cagliari. The 15 villas range from 200 to 500 square meters in size, with four different types. The interiors, designed by Doriana, the architect’s wife, focus on Sardinian crafts: “Sa Palas” is the traditional waistcoat worn on feast days by women in Sardinia, featuring gold threads, and Villa Palas is the name of one of the four villa types. The others are Villa Luxi, meaning “light”, Villa Nea, “dawn”, and Villa Arenada, in honor of the pomegranate. All have private gardens, swimming pools and roof terraces. Sinuous, as if shaped by the wind, the villas feature furnishings by Doriana Fuksas. The large, open living areas contain only sofas and chairs by Baxter, and glass tables by Fiam. The kitchen, always to one side, is by Xera, with Bsh/Gaggenau appliances. Both daytime and nighttime zones feature lamps by Venini; the simple beds are from Moroso, while the wardrobes have been made by local craftsmen.
