A jewel of the Portoguese coast
Carlos Montez Champalimaud was the physician and entrepreneur who discovered and acquired the Quinta da Marinha property, a magnificent portion of the Portuguese coastline, back in 1922. He developed plans to stabilise the natural sand dunes and planted pine trees to prepare the land for the construction of a tourist destination of exceptional quality. His son, Carlos Sommer Champalimaud, in the 1950’s and 60’s, expanded the original project: roads were built, wells were drilled for water supply, the first homes erected and sports facilities (horse racing and tennis) introduced. Miguel Champalimaud, third generation of the family, boasted the equestrian centres, a state-of-the-art Health and Racket Club and the award-winning Oitavos Dunes golf course. Most recently, The Oitavos, a luxury hotel was launched projecting this family’s long-term vision and philosophy for the hospitality industry. Offering a modern taste of Portugal, the hotel, located on the coastline, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, and on the fringe of the Sintra National Park, only 5 minutes from the town of Cascais and the famous Guincho beach, has achieved new standards of excellence providing quality service, style and fun to a global, sophisticated audience. Aiming to embrace nature, rather than compete with it, The Oitavos’ bold design, sleek lines and elegantly simple interiors direct attention outwards – towards the stunning natural elements of the surrounding landscape and the blue immensity of the Atlantic Ocean. Something unique among the luxury hotels in Cascais. 143 Guestrooms: 14 Rooms; 126 Lofts; 2 Master Suites; 1 Private Villa – all with sunny private balconies.
