An hotel with the gift of music
The Westin Hamburg is located in the new architectural and cultural landmark of the city of Hamburg, a building complex with an imposing glass façade on the western tip of the Hafencity quarter, which is also home to the auditoriums of the Elbphilharmonie concert hall. On the existing structural shell of the brick Kaispeicher A, a former warehouse for cocoa, tobacco and tea, the architects Herzog & de Meuron have placed a curved glass façade consisting of over 1,000 window elements. These have a variety of curves, resulting in some unique reflective effects. Their shapes recall huge horseshoes and tuning forks. The concave roof with shimmering spangles finishes off the 110- metre high structure with shapes like the crest of a wave. The Westin Hamburg covers 19 floors of the eastern section of the building. The 205 rooms and 39 suites – no other hotel has more suites in the city – are all at least 40 metres above the Elbe. The floor-to- ceiling windows of the glass façade provide an incomparable view over the busy life of the port and the roofs of the city. From the Elbphilharmonie Rooms to the Eigner Suite, measuring 162 square metres and with its own balcony on the 19th floor – each of the nine room categories is a generous size. Their design is inspired by natural elements such as water, wood and wind. The restaurant “The Saffron” on the 7th floor has capacity for 170 guests: head chef Martin Kirchgasser combines fresh, Hanseatic produce with influences from all over the world. To contribute to the holistic Eat Well concept, the kitchen team creates the Westin Superfoodsrx™ dishes only with fresh and seasonal ingredients. The “Elb SPA”, covering an area of 1,300 m², has treatment rooms for individuals and couples, one of the longest indoor swimming pools in Hamburg, saunas, steam baths, two open- air loggias with a view of the Elbe and port, a lounge, a relaxation room and the Westin workout fitness area. It is also open to external visitors as a day SPA and is located on the 6th storey.
