Today, it is heartening to state that we increasingly hear people not just talk about environmental issues but also take concrete action to achieve sustainability and respect resources and nature, which should be protected. This commitment, if undertaken consistently and with tenacity in every sector, will benefit everyone now and, above all, for future generations. This is why many luxury brands have begun to seriously tackle this exciting challenge, which begins with the choice of raw materials, followed closely by sustainable production, to ensure products or services have a much lower impact on the environment. This change is also required due to the fundamental choices of demanding customers with a more eco-friendly conscience, and who today want to make more informed purchases that unite farsightedness with sustainable visions, where possible, without compromising beauty, quality or refinement. Our journey of beauty starts in the pristine, protected nature of the private atoll of Tetiaroa in French Polynesia, where the vision of Marlon Brando has been realised through a luxury eco-resort, The Brando, which believes in the philosophy of sustainability and low environmental impact and is the perfect destination for those who love spending a holiday surrounded by the beauty of nature, in secluded luxury and unique privacy. It is a pioneering example of eco-sustainability and luxury with zero impact. Equally wonderful is the private island of Milaidhoo in the Maldives, which is situated in a Unesco-protected world biosphere. This small island of exquisite natural beauty, which should definitely be explored barefoot, is in perfect symbiosis with nature, and offers discreet, casual comfort. Luxury and the protection of delicate ecosystems are the new frontier of the most exclusive holidays. Even though the road towards environmental sustainability is still long in certain sectors, there is still growing commitment to the environment among the manufacturers of supercars, which are both more environmentally friendly and high tech, and combine driving pleasure with the modernity of hybrid propulsion and greater range, with zero emissions. This is also true of the Italian constructors of luxury superyachts, which are loved above all for their unrivalled beauty, for their uniquely Italian choice of refined, quality materials, as well as for the innovative techniques they embody, but always without going over the top. This innovative trend demonstrates how, even in the automotive and nautical sectors, the luxury industry is increasingly going green, with results in terms of performance and style. The sky is also filled with increasingly sophisticated aircraft, with latest-generation jets that move at previously unthinkable speeds thanks to more powerful and efficient engines, but also embrace a greater awareness of consumption and the production of emissions, as well as being quieter, with less noise pollution. These new, more respectful technologies are often accompanied by an increased personalisation of interiors, by high-tech, extremely stylish design: genuine mega-suites with wings. Now, what can be say about high fashion, refined watches and jewellery? These are three areas that are becoming increasingly less indifferent to problems of the planet, and in which new materials hone increasingly modern technologies, which in turn fuel creativity, that are ahead of their time and open new horizons in craftsmanship. In this case, the route towards sustainability has only just begun by using more ecological or certified natural materials, recycled or regenerated items, and more respectful manufacturing procedures in terms of social and environmental responsibility and traceability. Lastly, even the beauty industry is working towards perfecting environmentally sustainable perfumes and treatments, working with more natural ingredients or adding elements naturally found within our genetic heritage that are lost with age. Everything is heading towards the “natural” and the road to cover in this sense is long but, fortunately, filled with surprises and good inventions. The challenge between technology and innovation, ethics and aesthetics, will certainly lead to a new philosophy for beauty, in which luxury will be more sustainable, accessible and respectful of man and the environment: a change that side-steps the clichés of the past and presents itself to the future with a more natural and authentic vitality.
