La gamma “luxury” Made in Italy
The new “luxury” range Made in Italy
The cult line by Ranieri International changes face: we have climbed on board the new Next 285 LX. Here are the innovations and our sea trial
DESPITE THE PARTICULAR YEAR, Ranieri International pushes the throttle down and proceeds with all the projects unveiled in recent months. In detail, four new models are scheduled to be launched, which represents a very important signal from a shipyard that represents Made in Italy boating in many countries in the world. Among the novelties, there is even a new “luxury” range (hence the LX acronym) which combines elegant finishes with the seaworthiness and comfort features that have always distinguished the shipyard.
We have had the opportunity to talk with Salvatore Ranieri, owner of the company.
The Next line has evolved. How is the new Next 285 LX?
“The LX is an evolution of the Next collection and will join the existing line of our range without replacing it. The new Next 285 is one of the four new boats we will launch in 2021. The boat offers a large and modular cockpit, an enveloping pilot and co-pilot seat and a cabin which can accommodate 4 people although it looks like a sundeck thanks to the bow, which is completely covered with cushions. As a result, it can be used as a daycruiser – thanks to the homologation for 10 people in category B (12 in category C) – or as a cruiser for 4 people thanks to the bathroom with separate cabin with guarantees total privacy”.
From an aesthetic point of view, the new Next 285 is different and includes many innovations even in technical and construction terms, doesn’t she?
“Yes, that’s right. The hull features a dual step called ‘twin air step system’; some skids have been overturned to provide greater comfort and
stability during navigation while the entire deck was made with a single mold. This way, having no joints joined together, no creaking and excessive bending are generated, with significant advantage from both a structural (lighter and more resistant) and recreational point of view. The impact with waves, in fact, is always soft and gentle”.
The boat is fitted with outboard propulsion. Which is the engine option recommended?
“The LX 285 can be powered by twin outboards from 200 to 300HP. The version currently available for sea trials is fitted with two Mercury 250 outboards which deliver a top speed of 47.7 knots and a cruising speed of 26 knots, with a fuel consumption of around 31 l/h for each engine at 3,500 rpm. Nevertheless, Mercury is not the only engine brand available and the owner can choose between Suzuki, Mercury and Honda”.
The shipyard will also launch three new RIBS: the Cayman 23.0 Sport, the 26.0 Sport and the 28.0 Executive. They will be exhibited at the Genoa International Boat Show. Should we expect other novelties from Ranieri International?
“We are always in constant innovation and are designing new models that will be launched during the early 2021 boat shows”.
OUR SEA TRIAL ON BOARD THE NEXT 285 LX
The boat offers many opportunities of use thanks to a modular cockpit that can be easily converted into a sunbathing platform with table. The backrest installed in the bow portion of the console is very comfortable, allowing guests to relax while sailing without being completely stretched out. The guest cabin below deck can accommodate 2 people in total comfort. The air exchange and brightness are somewhat limited due to the small portholes and the absence of the manhole (optional).
The engines deliver good performance. The boat gets up on plane in just 3.5 seconds with 2 passengers on board, 25% of fuel (over 450 liters in total) and empty water tank (130 l).
The rather calm sea with very long waves facilitate performance despite the impact on the waves of our wake is more than good. Too bad for an excessive roll during the turn due to the high side to favor the habitability in the cabin, but it is a compromise that we are willing to accept, especially considering that the boat has an overall length of 8.80m, which allows the yachtsman to have low management costs and good performance at sea.
