Palermo-los Angeles on on board of a 10-meter RIB
In navigazione Sergio Davì ne passerà almeno 25. Un’altra impresa da record all’orizzonte, tutta da seguire!
IT SOUNDS LIKE THE NAME OF AN UNLIKELY INTERCONTINENTAL FLIGHT.
Parlermo-los Angeles. Same latitude, but thousands of miles away that Sergio Davì, a sailor from Palermo, has decided to cover for his next venture, the Ocean To Ocean Rib Challenge, obviously aboard an inflatable boat. Ten years after the first crossing from Palermo to Amsterdam and a year after the Palermo-new York one, again on board a rubber dinghy, Sergio is ready to amaze with a challenge that raises the bar by attempting a record-breaking solo crossing. Many stages, many of which still to be determined, along the more than 10,000 nautical miles alone that separate the Sicilian capital and the City of Angels, aboard a Nuova Jolly 10-meter RIB. The model and Suzuki outboards which will be used fot the crossing has yet to be decided. For the time being, the most accredited options seem to be two Suzuki outboards, 200 or 300 horsepower each. No DF350A, therefore, for this crossing after the two most powerful outboards of the Japanese company had accompanied Sergio during the last Palermo-new York crossing.
The boat will have the best of Simrad electronic equipment. Suzuki, Nuova Jolly and Simrad are the three main partners that will support Sergio Davì during this new challenge.
THE ROUTE The stops chosen by Sergio Davì for the first half of the undertaking are not very different from those of the 2017 crossing, when he sailed from Palermo to Brazil. After the Mediterranean, he will sail to the Canary Islands and from there down to Cape Verde, from where the longest non-stop leg to Barbados will start, which exceeds 2,000 miles (a record in the record). From here the journey will continue with scheduled stops also in Venezuela and Colombia, and then along the Panama Canal and the Pacific Ocean.
Here a detour to the Galapagos archipelago before returning to the sea towards Mexico with destination California and Los Angeles. The duration of the crossing, scheduled for autumn-winter 2021-2022, will be approximately 100 days in total. At least 25 will pass Sergio Davì at sea. Another record-breaking challenge on the horizon, all to be followed!
