Ci siamo.
Here we go, it’s just a matter of time. The process has become irreversible. And the signs are all pointing in the same direction. The electric revolution in boating is imminent. We are taking big steps towards a new era. The announcement a few days before the close of this issue of Motorboats that Mercury will launch five new electric outboards by 2023 marks a turning point in nautical history. Added to this is the decision of Brunswick Group - of which Mercury is a part - to launch new electric models in four different segments in the near future. And if a marine industry giant of this calibre has decided to break the mould and cross the threshold of the electric, then the time is ripe to chart a new course. Technology combined with the development of new-generation batteries has undoubtedly helped to shake up the entire nautical sector.
Mercury's entry into the electric sector is just teh first in a series of chapters yet to be written that will closely involve the strategies of the main outboard engine manufacturers. In the meantime, however, the die is cast and the culture of the electric is increasingly spreading, also in the light of the numerous initiatives scheduled: starting with the E Village, the themed area set up at the next Venice Boat Show, to the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge to be held in early July and promoted by the Yacht Club de Monaco, passing through the E1series. A chapter that is becoming increasingly topical. On June 7th, the curtain will officially rise on this class of revolutionary fail-equipped and electrically-powered yachts. You can find out a little of what it will be like in this issue. But it's just a foretaste of a future that promises to be ever more electrifying.
