In Dubai I like to sit harbour-side with a wagyu sando from 3 Fils, having skipped lunch after the Emirati breakfast feast at Arabian Tea House in heritage Bastakiya. And I always stop at Montroi, full of travel-inspired gear including monogrammable leather. A drive in a vintage Land Rover with Platinum Heritage Desert Safaris is a cooler alternative to dune bashing. As for bedding down, Al Maha desert hotel has conservationist-led tours. You can teeter on the edge of the magnificent Rub’ Al Khali sand sea at Anantara’s Qasr Al Sarab, or feel like a modern-day Bedouin in a tented villa at The Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi Desert, in Ras Al Khaimah, where I’d also stop off at the Suwaidi pearl farm. The Sharjah Art Foundation is a maze-like space to get lost in and Abu Dhabi’s Louvre is a no-brainer; fuel up for the journey with chicken machboos from hit local café Meylas.
