ARRIVARE IN SPIAGGIA e trovare la sabbia non soltanto perfettamente pulita, ma anche liscia e intatta, come se nessuno l’avesse mai calpestata prima, è uno dei piaceri e delle “coccole” che la Versilia offre ai suoi visitatori (almeno ai più mattinieri). Ma ci sono alcuni bagni che, ai primi clienti che si affacciano sul mare, regalano qualcosa di più, e di speciale. Sono i grandi disegni che i bagnini tracciano la mattina presto sulla sabbia bagnata dall’alta marea. Quando l’acqua del mare si ritira, la striscia umida diventa una enorme tela, su cui “dipingere” con attrezzi simili a grandi rastrelli. Sono spesso motivi geometrici, a volte rappresentano le onde del mare o un sole con i suoi raggi, un fiore, il nome del bagno. E magari un immenso cuore, se sulla spiaggia si festeggia un matrimonio. Effimere come un mandala, queste decorazioni hanno anche la virtù di essere gratuite e la bellezza delle cose inutili. Sono un omaggio a chi le vuole apprezzare e un regalo ai bambini, soprattutto i più piccoli, i più assidui frequentatori della spiaggia, la mattina presto. Che si divertono a scorrazzare su quelle linee ben tracciate, e anche a distruggerle. «Sono trentuno anni che mi diverto a tracciare le mie opere sulla sabbia», racconta Mirco Pardini, uno dei bagnini veterani di questa tradizione. «Fra le 7 e le 8 la spiaggia è vuota e solitaria, e a seconda di come mi sveglio, di com’è la giornata, scelgo il disegno da fare. È bello vedere i bambini che corrono ad ammirarli, ed è una soddisfazione quando i clienti trovano la spiaggia non solo ordinata, ma anche abbellita da un mio disegno». Sono due gli attrezzi che i bagnini usano per creare sulla sabbia. Il dente, una sorta di rastrello che oggi è di alluminio, ma tradizionalmente era costruito artigianalmente in legno, con grossi chiodi a formare i denti. E il barone, che non ha denti, ma solo una tavola liscia. Con il primo si cre

ano linee zigrinate, con tante piccole linee parallele. Con il secondo linee perfettamente piatte. Le decorazioni nascono dalla combinazione di questi due tipi di segni, liscio e “pettinato”, che arrivano a creare l’illusione del colore. «La sabbia dev’essere bagnata», spiega Nicola Donnini, che a questa passione si dedica da una decina d’anni. «A volte i disegni li facciamo quando ha piovuto, anche perché sono giornate tranquille, con poca gente in spiaggia e meno lavoro per noi bagnini».

Ma perché dedicare tempo, e fatica, a qualcosa di così effimero? Qualcosa che è destinato a svanire nel giro di poche ore? Anche se non ci fosse nessuno a calpestarlo, infatti, è sufficiente che la sabbia si asciughi per cancellare tutto. Per divertimento, per esprimere un po’ di sé stessi, per far piacere ai clienti, spiegano gli autori. E anche per ringraziare di quello che si ha: una spiaggia ampia e magnifica e un lavoro che, oltre a svolgersi davanti al mare, permette di creare relazioni anche di amicizia con clienti che, spesso, sono gli stessi per anni, se non per generazioni.

Oggi le decorazioni sulla spiaggia vengono immortalate da innumerevoli macchine fotografiche e smartphone, pubblicate e condivise su giornali e social network. Ma forse resta, sullo sfondo, l’idea dell’impermanenza del mondo materiale, di come ogni cosa sia, in fondo, passeggera.

set foot on it. Just one of the ways that Versilia spoils its visitors (or at least the early birds). Yet some of Forte’s beach clubs have something more, something very special, in store for the mornings’ first arrivals. When the high tide ebbs, the wet sand of the foreshore becomes a huge “canvas” for the beach attendants who “paint” large-scale designs with giant rake-like tools. Often these are geometric motifs; other times, waves or stylized suns with jutting rays, or flowers, or the beach club logo. Or maybe a huge heart, if a beach wedding is scheduled.

These ephemeral mandalas cost nothing and possess all the beauty of useless things. They are simply there; they are gifts for children, the most assiduous of the earlymorning beachgoers. Who think it’s great fun to run along the carefully-drawn lines, scuffing and erasing as they go.

“I’ve been enjoying myself this way, drawing on the sand, for thirty-one years,” says Mirco Pardini, one of the veteran practitioners of the tradition. “The beach is empty between 7 and 8 a.m. Depending how I feel, what sort of day it is, I decide what to draw. I enjoy watching the children run down to see what I’ve done, and it is very satisfying to see that our grown-up clients likewise enjoy finding not only a clean, orderly beach but also my designs.”

The attendants use two tools for their art. The dente, a sort of rake (now aluminum, but traditionally handmade of wood, with oversize nails for the tines). And the toothless barone, similar to a squeegee. The dente scratches closely-spaced parallel ridges and furrows; the barone leaves perfectly flat strips in its wake. The two types of surface effects, smooth and “combed”, combine to form motifs that even generate the illusion of color. “The sand has to be wet,” explains Nicola Donnini, a sand artist for about ten years now, “though we sometimes draw on rain-dampened

sand. Rainy days are less hectic, with fewer people on the beach and less ‘normal’ work for us attendants.But why spend time and energy on something so fleeting? In the best of cases, doomed to disappear in just a few hours? Even if nobody walks on it, the contours crumble as soon as the sand dries out. Why, then? Because it’s fun, to express oneself, to do something extra for the clients, and – the artists tell us – to give thanks for a magnificent beach and a job right on the sea that makes it possible to build relationships, often true friendships, with clients who in many cases are the same from year to year, if not generation to generation.

Today, the drawings on the sand are preserved by innumerable cameras and smartphones and published and posted and shared. But in the background, there’s always a whiff of the impermanence of the material world, a reminder that everything, in the final reckoning, passes. А еще, если предвидится праздник бракосочетания, верным знаком события служит изображение на песке огромного сердца. Мимолётное, но такое милое начало дня не имеет большой ценности, но оно приносит большую радость детям – самым многочисленным гостям пляжа ранним утром. Бегая по четким линиям рисунка и нарушая их целостность, они получают огромное удовольствие.

«Я уже тридцать один год развлекаюсь, оставляя мои творения на песке», рассказывает Мирко Пардини, один из ветеранов-спасателей пляжа, который многое может рассказать о тонкостях нанесения рисунков на влажный песок. «Между 7 и 8 утра пляж еще пустой и тихий, в зависимости от настроения, в котором я просыпаюсь, я чётко представляю характер рисунка, который я оставлю первым гостям пляжа. Мне приятно видеть детей, бегущих со всех ног к результату моего утреннего творчества, вдвойне мне приятно видеть клиентов, которые улыбаются, видя пляж не только чистым, но и украшенным моим вдохновением».

Для своего творчества работники пляжа используют два инструмента. Это зубья, представляющие собой вид граблей, изготавливаемые в наше время из алюминия, но раньше их делали традиционно вручную из дерева, вбивая в него гвозди, формируя таким образом своеобразный гребень. Вторым же инструментом является так называемый барон, который не имеет зубьев,

поскольку сделан из гладкой доски. Первый инструмент обеспечивает проведение рифлёных линий, идущих параллельно друг другу. Второй выполняет проведение абсолютно плоских широких линий. Таким образом, рисунки возникают в результате комбинирования этих двух типов узоров: гладкого и с эффектом «расчёсывания», которые и дарят иллюзию чередования цвета. «Песок должен быть влажным», объясняет Никола Доннини, который за десять лет работы выработал свой особый стиль в нанесении рисунков. «Иногда мы «рисуем» после дождя, потому что это спокойные дни, людей на пляже мало, соответственно мы более свободны».

Зачем же тратить время и усилия на такие эфемерные вещи, которые исчезнут в течение пары часов? Даже если никто и не тронет рисунок, песок, высыхая, сам сотрёт весь труд человека. Работа с влажным, податливым песком вдохновляет на творчество, объясняют авторы. Оставляя на пляже рисунок, тем самым они выражают жест благодарности стихии природы за то, что она подарила их краю столько пространства, дающего им работу и возможность завязывать узы дружественного общения с клиентами пляжа, которые не только становятся постоянными на протяжении лет, но и приезжают на пляж уже целыми поколениями.

Сегодня рисунки на пляжах становятся известными миру благодаря фотоаппаратам и смартфонам. И все-таки, красной нитью в таком творчестве проходит идея скоротечности материального мира, неподвластной нашим желаниям.
