THE MARCH OF THE BUFFALOES
The Marcialonga is the most important and famous cross-country skiing marathon in Italy. It is held on the slopes of Valli di Fiemme and Fassa (Trento) on the last Sunday of January. The race, one of the most popular and best loved in Italy, takes skiers on a route through the magical landscape of the towns and woods of the Dolomites. Held annually, the race is open to skiers of all levels, including ‘senators’ (the veterans) and ‘buffaloes’ (amateur skiers who leave in the last wave of the marathon). The Marcialonga Story is a traditional event reserved for skiers armed with vintage equipment and wearing vintage ski outfits that is held on the day before the race.
