L’ADSI è l’associazione che raccoglie residenze d’epoca, dimore di charme, antiche ville, palazzi e case storiche, castelli, cascine, giardini.
Historic Dwellings of Lazio. ADSI is an association of period residences, residences de charme, ancient villas, historic palazzos and houses, castles, farmhouses, gardens.
Le dimore storiche raccolte dall’ ADSI rappresentano un patrimonio immobiliare storico monumentale italiano di grandissimo fascino e richiamo: residenze d’epoca, dimore di charme, antiche ville, palazzi e case storiche, castelli, cascine, giardini. Il percorso fatto dall’ Associazione Dimore Storiche Italiane nell’aggregare questi luoghi “d’eccellenza”, a partire dal 1977 (anno della fondazione), ci viene raccontato dal presidente dell’ ADSI Lazio, Filippo Massimo Lancellotti con il quale conversiamo a piazza Navona, nel suo Palazzo Lancellotti (già De Torres), del XVI secolo. A Lancellotti chiediamo anche cosa sente di aver fatto l’Associazione per modificare quella percezione che il pubblico ha di questi luoghi considerati, forse un po’ a torto, d’élite.
I soci fondatori di ADSI intesero dare rappresentanza ai proprietari privati di beni storici che incontrano problemi e difficoltà molto particolari nella gestione delle proprie dimore. Dimore che spesso si trovano fuori dalle grandi città, in luoghi dove non è facile ricavare un reddito dal bene stesso. Inoltre si tratta di beni vincolati, sottoposti cioè a vincolo da parte delle Soprintendenze, le quali autorizzano e supervisionano i lavori di manutenzione. L’
ADSI, sin dalla sua creazione, è stata efficace nelle seguenti direzioni: - Riconoscimento da parte delle istituzioni del valore storico, culturale, architettonico delle Dimore, della loro difesa dell’ambiente e del valore economico. Si tratta di riconoscimenti che non sono mai scontati e vanno reiterati con il mutare della situazione economica e politica. - Ottenimento, a fronte del vincolo e dell’onere dato dalla manutenzione, di aiuti per la manutenzione straordinaria. - Apertura al pubblico e diffusione della conoscenza e del valore delle dimore come testimonianza della nostra cultura. Nel Lazio, chiediamo al presidente Lancellotti, quali sono le caratteristiche che assumono le dimore storiche e in quali aree si trovano prevalentemente? The historic residences promoted by ADSI represent an Italian historical and monumental real estate heritage of great charm and appeal: period residences, residences de charme, ancient villas, palazzos and historic houses, castles, farmhouses, gardens. The itinerary created by the Association of Italian Historical Residences by aggregating these places “of excellence” since 1977 (the year of its foundation), is told to us by the president of ADSI Lazio, Filippo Massimo Lancellotti who we met in his sixteenth-century Palazzo Lancellotti (formerly De Torres) in Piazza Navona. We ask Lancellotti what the Association feels it has done to change the public’s perception of these places considered, perhaps a little wrongly, only for the elite few.
The founding members of ADSI intended to represent private owners of historical buildings who encounter very particular problems and difficulties in their management. Dwellings that are often found outside large cities, in places where it is not easy to earn a living from the asset itself. In addition, these are listed buildings, i.e. subject to constraints imposed a the Superintendences, which authorize and supervise maintenance work. Since its creation, ADSI has been active in the following areas:
- achieving recognition by public institutions of the historical, cultural, architectural value of the dwellings, of their value in protecting the environment and economic value. This recognition is never achieved indefinitely and must be sought continuously as the economic and political situation changes. - Obtaining, in view of the constraints and the burden of maintenance, financial aid for extraordinary maintenance.
- Public access to the dwellings and promoting awareness of their existence and value as a testimony to our culture.

I have been president of ADSI Lazio for two years, Lancellotti replies, and I continue to discover new homes, new villas, new castles, new gardens! Lazio has a characteristic that perhaps
Regioni: la forza di attrazione della Capitale. Che talvolta mette in ombra le bellezze circostanti. Ovviamente ci sono dimore storiche in tutte le province del Lazio. Penso alle splendide ville tuscolane con i loro bellissimi giardini, e a quelle farnesiane, severe e grandiose; ai castelli che si stendono dall’interno del territorio fin lungo la costa; alle ville viterbesi coi loro giardini storici; ai palazzi di Viterbo e di Rieti.
Passione dei proprietari, desiderio di condividere la storia dei luoghi di origine e le tradizioni delle famiglie, tanto impegno nella gestione e nella manutenzione di queste strutture storiche che però, alla fine, sembrano ripagare raramente la devozione e gli investimenti che hanno richiesto… Palazzi siti a Roma, Firenze o Venezia si trovano in città economicamente ricche e dinamiche, ma sono una esigua minoranza. La stragrande maggioranza delle dimore si trova in piccole città, in borghi o in aperta campagna. Realizzare reddito da queste proprietà è estremamente difficile.
La nostra rivista è rimasta affascinata dalla rete di dimore storiche italiane e dalla loro vocazione che, analogamente al nostro trimestrale, risiede nel viaggio esperienziale, nella scoperta dei luoghi della storia e del Grand Tour. Nell’ottobre 2020, all’hotel Donna Camilla Savelli di Trastevere, le dimore storiche del Lazio si sono ritrovate a brindare alla nuova partnership con la nostra rivista la quale, da questo numero, racconta le storie delle famiglie proprietarie: l’arte, la natura, le tradizioni, l’artigianato, l’enogastronomia di luoghi di grandissimo fascino e al tempo stesso scarsamente conosciuti. ADSI da sempre, conclude Filippo Massimo Lancellotti, con manifestazioni annuali in tutta Italia, promuove l’avvicinamento del pubblico al patrimonio storico, artistico, architettonico delle dimore. L’interesse crescente del pubblico è riflesso anche nella stampa come Roman Walks che condivide con ADSI percorsi comuni, nella diversità dei ruoli. distinguishes it from other Regions: the attraction of the Capital. This sometimes overshadows the surrounding beauties. Of course, there are historic houses in all the provinces of Lazio. I am thinking of the wonderful Tuscolane villas with their beautiful gardens, and the Farnesian ones, severe and grandiose; to the castles that stretch from the inside of the territory all the way along the coast; to the villas of Viterbo with their historic gardens; to the palazzos of Viterbo and Rieti.
The passion of the owners, their desire to share the history of their places of origin and the traditions of their families, all their commitment to managing and maintaining these historic structures, however, rarely seem to be repaid given the devotion and investments that are required... The palazzos located in Rome, Florence or Venice are located in economically rich and dynamic cities, but they are only a small minority. The vast majority of dwellings are located in small towns, villages or in open countryside. Making a living from these properties is extremely difficult.
We are extremely fascinated by this network of Italian historical houses and their vocation that, just like our quarterly, promotes the experiential journey and the discovery of historical places and those of the Grand Tour. In October 2020, at the Donna Camilla Savelli hotel in Trastevere, the historic dwellings of Lazio found themselves toasting the new partnership with our journal which, from this issue, tells the stories of the owner families: the art, nature, traditions, crafts, food and wine of little known places of great charm.
ADSI, concludes Filippo Massimo Lancellotti, has always promoted the public’s rapprochement with the historical, artistic and architectural heritage of the dwellings with annual events throughout Italy. The growing interest of the public is also reflected in the press like in Roman Walks which, albeit with different roles, shares a common outlook with ADSI.
