Gabriele Muccino set I Migliori Anni, Sky shot the international and still unpublished TV series, Domina, and Michele Placido is currently making the film L’ombra di Caravaggio.
With “immersive experiences”, as they have been called, interactive installations, insights and stories from “beyond the usual screens” and 12 themed rooms, the Italian Museum of Audio-visuals and Cinema, the MIAC, seems to have crowned and given shape to the historical heritage and resources kept within the walls of Cinecittà.
The MIAC, explains Di Gregorio, is the new museum within Cinecittà that tells the story, the evolution, the perspectives of the art of moving images, throughout the last 120 years of Italian history, also looking towards the future. A new way to immerse yourself in the arts and techniques
Ovviamente aperto a tutti.
Italian Pavilion, dove vengono ospitate presentazioni e conferenze. E poi il dipartimento eventi, Cinecittà Events, il Gambero Rosso, la tecnologia live streaming con un apposito allestimento creato nel nostro Teatro 1. that have fed our imagination, such as Cinema, Television and new digital technologies. Here, the sources from the immense and precious Historical Archive of the Istituto Luce set an extremely unique stage. The museum is located in the former Developing and Printing Building of Cinecittà. The 40 metres of the conveyor roller are clearly visible above the heads of visitors. Naturally, it’s open for everyone to see.
How did the somewhat bizarre idea of making the Fellini exhibition come about? Does
Ferretti dream of Fellini? We ask Di Gregorio to tell us some anecdotes about Dante Ferretti and the work that the Italian set designer has done to give life to those characters and those fascinating environments.
Cinecittà was supposed to pay homage to his most famous tenant, Federico Fellini, and do so in a way that he, too, would have appreciated. Dante Ferretti was one of his most loyal collaborators and, like Fellini, he is a lover of Cinecittà where he still has his atelier today. Felliniana is the most recent exhibition itinerary within Cinecittà si Mostra and is a real immersion in Fellini’s imagination, a small town inside Cinecittà. The visit unfolds through three main areas: in the central hall, a historic Fiat 125 evokes the continuous journeys of Fellini and Ferretti during which conversations and tales of dreams took place. It is the most personal room created by the three-time Oscar winner, Ferretti, together with the help of his wife, interior designer Francesca Lo Schiavo, who, in turn, won the statuette three times. The route continues onto the House of Pleasure, with the imagination scenarios of La Città delle Donne: the slide and the soubrettes that surround Marcello Mastroianni and bring visitors to the final room, that of Fulgor cinema.
Exhibitions and museums are just part of the management activities you deal with. What are the other tasks?
Cinecittà is not only the place where cinema is made but also where it is promoted through the media. In addition to professional websites, we also have consumer tools such as CinecittàNews and Cinecittalucemagazine sites, and bold media like 8 1/2, a bimonthly printed magazine, with an innovative edge, published in collaboration with Mibact under the editorial management of Gianni Canova. During the major international festivals there is our Italian Pavilion, where presentations and conferences are hosted. And then there is the events department, Cinecittà Events, the Gambero Rosso, live streaming technology with a special set-up created in our Theatre 1.
