Welcome to Naples and enjoy your stay in Campania! We’re in the midst of summer and if you chose our region to spend your vacations you probably picked a seaside resort: the Amalfi coast, the gulf’s islands or Cilento. Well then, here’s a Tips issue full of sea and incomparable scents and flavors. Like the ones found in Sorrento, with its terraces, its lemons and its ceramics known worldwide for their unique style. While we were about to put this latest issue to bed, bad news came to cast some shadows, regarding the passing of the Neapolitan author Luciano De Crescenzo, a writer and philosopher very much loved by his fellow citizens, his works being translated all over the world. The Master, or rather, the “Professor”, as he was called in his most popular movie “So Bellavista spoke”, lived his best life in the places illustrated in this issue, during his youth in the golden age of the international nightlife. Grand viveur, De Crescenzo, among other things, has contributed to explaining classic philosophy with courtesy, shrewdness and irony, all characteristics of the most noble Neapolitan way of being that we love to identify ourselves with. This is the same way of being that would have not spared any of our readers when, after having observed the different birthplaces, our Luciano would have said: “So you’re not from Naples? I’m sorry about that!” Enjoy the read and have a great vacation! Benvenuti a Napoli e buon soggiorno in Campania! Siamo nel pieno della stagione estiva e se avete scelto la nostra Regione per le vostre vacanze molto probabilmente avrete scelto una località balneare: la Costiera, le isole del golfo, il Cilento. Ecco allora un numero di Tips pieno di mare, profumi e sapori inconfondibili, come quelli di Sorrento: con le sue terrazze, i limoni, le ceramiche dallo stile famoso in tutto il mondo.

A velare però tutta questa la luce, mentre chiudiamo il numero, la scomparsa, qualche giorno fa, dello scrittore napoletano Luciano De Crescenzo, scrittore filosofo molto amato dai suoi concittadini, i cui libri sono stati tradotti in tutto il mondo. Il Maestro, o meglio, il Professore, come veniva chiamato nel suo film più famoso: “Così parlò Bellavista”, nei luoghi che raccontiamo questo mese amò il buon vivere degli anni più belli della gioventù e della movida internazionale. Gran viveur, De Crescenzo ha, tra i tanti meriti, quello di aver divulgato la filosofia classica con garbo, sagacia e ironia, caratteristiche della napoletanità più nobile in cui qui amiamo riconoscerci. La stessa che non avrebbe risparmiato, ahimè, nessun nostro lettore allorquando, constatati i diversi natali, il nostro Luciano avrebbe detto sorridendo: “Non sei di Napoli? Mi dispiace!”
