A hugely successful new co-design with Hot Lab that still reflects the yard’s philosophy Nuovo per design, ma coerente con la filosofia del cantiere, è realizzato in collaborazione con Hot Lab e sta riscuotendo grande successo
Presented to the world at the last Cannes Show, the A105 from Arcadia is the result of the yard’s desire to put the owner at the very centre of its designs and to create spaces that will both cocoon those aboard and allow them live in complete harmony with the surrounding world. The core value that has always underpinned the Arcadia philosophy is the notion of always starting with the owner and how that individual intends to use the boat before giving form and substance to those needs and desires. The new A105, in fact, is an evolution of the previous model and the first to splash from the partnership between Arcadia and the Milan-based Hot Lab which began with the concept for the Sherpa XL scheduled for presentation at the next Cannes Festival.
“We didn’t make any radical modifications to the exterior lines compared to the previous model because we didn’t want to denature the design,” explains Hot Lab’s Michele Dragoni. “The most significant change was to the upper deck which we extended. One of the most instantly recognisable features of any Arcadia yacht is the unusual skylights amidships which are made up of prisms that inundate the side areas of the saloon with
natural light. They also limited the width-ward development of the forward section of the upper deck, adding a sense of dynamism to the volumes. The sun lounge aft is full beam to offer the necessary space. The sharp, clear difference in the width of these two volumes has been emphasised rather than trying to soften the connection. The aft sun lounge is a cheekily octagonal shape to make the most of the available space and references classic Arcadia styling cues. Very few brands could get away with such a boldly non-conformist stylistic language that is still focused on optimising the onboard spaces,” concludes Dragoni.
Thanks to features so unusual they would rarely be encountered on any other boat of a similar size, the A105 has an upper deck complete with enclosed sky lounge and open cockpit which together cover 65 sqm.
The layout too is interesting with a choice of five versions spanning four to six cabins. That is not bad at all for a 32-metre boat, proving that Arcadia not only intends to but is capable of working for and with its owners by modifying routes, layouts and stairs to make its craft unique. Genuinely the stuff of what its Marketing & Communications Manager Francesco Ansalone dubs “a boutique yard”.
“To optimise the spaces and increase the volumes available to the guest area, we redesigned the passageway system. Nello sviluppo del suoi modelli, del resto, l’idea fondante di Arcadia è da sempre quella di partire dall’armatore e dall’uso che intende fare della barca, per poi dare forma ai suoi desideri. Un’idea che è alla base anche del nuovo A105, pensato come evoluzione del modello precedente e primo a scendere in acqua tra quelli nati dalla collaborazione tra Arcadia e lo studio milanese Hot Lab. Una collaborazione cominciata già con il concept del nuovo Sherpa XL che sarà presentato al prossimo Festival di Cannes in settembre.
«Rispetto al modello precedente, le modifiche alle linee esterne non sono state radicali perché non volevamo stravolgerne il design», spiega Michele Dragoni di Hot Lab. «L’intervento più importante è stato quello sull’upper deck, che è stato ampliato. Una delle caratteristiche più riconoscibili degli yacht Arcadia è la particolare conformazione dei lucernari a centro nave, costituiti da prismi che inondano le porzioni laterali del salone di luce naturale. Il gioco di incastri che ne deriva limita lo sviluppo in larghezza della porzione prodiera dell’upper deck, conferendo dinamismo ai volumi. Al contrario, il “sun lounge” di poppa si sviluppa a tutto baglio proprio per offrire gli spazi necessari. La marcata e improvvisa differenza in termini

Made from chromed stainless steel with no bannister or side protection, it has been located across the entrance to the saloon. But instead of ruining the aesthetic, it shines as a design feature in its own right, seeming to float on air. The interiors are where Hot Lab’s touch is clearest. Not just because of the unusual materials, such as Carbalho wood and resin panels, used, but mostly because of the elegance and refinement of the details. “The lights and the Flexform seats in the interiors excluded, we designed everything else and the yard built it,” continues Lumini. Sono pochi i brand che si possono permettere un linguaggio stilistico tanto anticonformista e allo stesso tempo orientato all’ottimizzazione degli spazi a bordo», conclude Dragoni.
Grazie a queste caratteristiche uniche e solitamente non riscontrabili su scafi di pari dimensioni, l’A105 dispone un ponte superiore con sky lounge coperto e pozzetto esterno che, insieme, coprono una superficie di 65 metri quadrati. Interessante anche il layout che è disponibile in 5 versioni da 4 a 6 cabine. Un’opzione non da poco per una barca di 32 metri che evidenzia come Arcadia sia in grado di mettersi davvero al servizio dei suoi armatori modificando percorsi, layout e scale per realizzare prodotti unici, degni di quello che Francesco Ansalone, marketing&comunication manager di Arcadia, ama definire “un cantiere boutique”. «Per ottimizzare gli spazi e aumentare il volume a disposizione delle zone ospiti, abbiamo rivisto il sistema dei passaggi. Sia quello ospiti sia quello crew», spiega Enrico Lumini di Hot Lab, che si è occupato degli interni. «E, paradossalmente, lo abbiamo fatto aggiungendo una scala a poppa che serve sia il ponte sole sia la suite armatoriale. In

Add to that mix the large windows that are such a signature of all Arcadia yachts and the incredible interplay in the glass surfaces in the solar panels, it’s easy to see how the architectural box of the superstructure and its contents meld to create a whole that cocoons the people living aboard and underscores the Neapolitan yard’s philosophy of putting owners at the centre of everything to ensure their dreams come true.

Lumini non lo dice, ma la scala di poppa di cui parla è un vero capolavoro di design. Realizzata in acciaio inox cromato e priva di corrimano e protezioni laterali, è posta trasversalmente rispetto all’ingresso del salone e, anziché mortificarne l’estetica, diventa un elemento di design di primo piano fluttuante com’è nell’aria. Gli interni sono senza dubbio l’area in cui l’intervento di Hot Lab è più evidente. Non solo per l’uso di materiali insoliti come il legno Carbalho e i pannelli di resina, ma soprattutto per l’eleganza e la ricercatezza dei dettagli. «Se si escludono le luci e le sedute degli interni che sono firmate da Flexform, tutto il resto è stato disegnato da noi e realizzato dal cantiere», spiega ancora Lumini. Leitmotiv di tutta la barca è l’alternanza del bianco e del nero, declinati in diverse finiture, e l’ampio uso di acciaio, non solo per la scala. Se a tutto ciò si aggiungono le grandi finestrature che contraddistinguono tutti gli Arcadia e l’incredibile gioco di intrecci nelle superfici vetrate dei pannelli solari, non è difficile capire come la scatola architettonica della sovrastruttura e il suo contenuto si fondano creando un tutt’uno che ruota intorno a chi la barca la vive. A riprova del grande successo di questo modello, la terza unità dell’A105 scenderà in acqua a giorni, mentre la quarta è in laminazione. Tutte sono state acquistate da armatori dell’A85, segno evidente che, più che una passione, Arcadia è una filosofia.
