The Jeep Cherokee is a bit of a record-breaker. It has been on the market for 44 long years and has clocked up over four million sales in its many and varied iterations. It is the European standard-bearer for the SUV and the Crossover, the kind of vehicles that are as at home in the city as on rough ground in rough weather. But despite its growing success on the European market of recent years, the Cherokee has not rested on its laurels and has continued to pull rabbits out of the hat. Last September brought the unveiling of the New Cherokee. Just a few months later at the last Geneva International Motor Show, Jeep debuted its more glamourous and metropolitan sibling, the Cherokee S, and the tougher, more robust Trailhawk. Both versions will land in Europe in the second quarter of this year. Four versions of the New Cherokee are available: Longitude, Business, Limited and Overland. All sport 2,174cc diesel engines that unleash 195 bhp and have automatic transmissions. All the main passive and active safety systems come as standard too. Depending on the version, you can also have front wheel drive (FWD), all-wheel drive (AWD) or four-wheel drive for lower speeds (4WD Low). The S series also introduces a string of glamorous details such as black nappa leather upholstery with tungsten-coloured saddle-stitching, The Night Eagle is the coolest version of all.
