Designed by Enrico Gobbi and his Team for Design, this yacht’s dynamic lines have a sports car zing to them

The ISA 45GT – Gobbi tells all Enrico Gobbi racconta l’ISA 45GT

“ISA Yachts is a yard I’ve liked since I was at university. It builds design-rich yachts that I have always admired. So I was delighted when I was asked as a part of a mini competition between yacht designers to design the lines of the new Isa Yachts’ range. The restyling work came very easy to me and the yard chose me”. The words of Enrico Gobbi as he describes the start of his Team for Design studio’s working relationship with ISA Yachts. A partnership that has now produced the new ISA 45 GT which has a launch date set for summer 2020. “Like the five other designs we developed for ISA Yachts,” explains Enrico Gobbi, “the 45 GT was already engineered. That meant that construction could begin immediately the yard got the commission”. The 44.3-metre ISA 45 GT has a steel hull topped by an aluminium superstructure.

“It is,” continues Gobbi, “a marriage of the styling cues of both the yard and Team for Design. First and foremost, this is a yacht with a sporty appeal and a superstructure shifted aftward. A line that is very reminiscent of a coupé car”. That suggestion is further underscored by the choice of a plumb bow and a long space on the foredeck. One of Enrico Gobbio’s own signatures adds to the mix. “The continuous glazing along the main deck is definitely one of our styling cues. The uninterrupted tinted window that gives the impression that the yacht is longer than she actually is”. The arched structure that connects the flybridge with the aft section of the main

deck does not interfere with its clean expanse either. “The fly arch is an ISA Yachts signature. It’s part of its history and, in fact, our successful reinterpretation of it was what resulted in our collaboration with the yard. With the ISA 45 GT, we went for a slender aerodynamic arch with a wide radius of curvature to create a taut curve. Modern. An arch that also ends in an element that picks up the colour of the windows. The fact that this was adopted as a signature element in all the new ISA Yachts is a source of great delight to us”. Aside from that long, long window and the superstructure arch, the layout of the new ISA 45 GT penned by Team for Design has two further distinguishing features, namely the aft pool and the flybridge. “At 2.5 metres, the pool is very large for a 45-metre, while the fly really does deliver 360-degree sea views. The roll-bar supporting the randomes has glazed side elements, in fact. Most importantly, however, aside from carbon-fibre-derived weight-saving and construction characteristics, the roll-bar’s design enhances the sporty, dynamic look of the ISA 45 GT which is encapsulated by lines that I would describe as future-forward”.
